Checkout button hard to reach on mobile

The difference between reachability and placement

A checkout button might be buried below an oversized promotion, hidden behind an overlay or difficult to tap on a narrow screen. A different failure occurs when the action is present but the cart cannot navigate to checkout. These problems can happen together, but they require separate evidence.

Shoppers need a usable route from a cart holding a product to the start of checkout. A desktop checkout link working doesn't prove the mobile path behaves the same way.

What the store audit can verify

SnafuFinder runs a bounded rendered shopping journey, attempts to reach checkout entry after the product and cart stages, and records the result. It also opens the same cart on a phone-sized screen and checks that the checkout button is visible and can be tapped without a popup or banner in the way. A blocked or hidden button is reported as a warning to confirm on a real phone, because a phone-sized browser window is not identical to every real device. It does not submit card data or complete payment.

The tool does not currently guarantee an automated measurement of visual prominence, distance from the top of the screen or tap-target accessibility across every device. If the checkout control works but feels hard to find, inspect the mobile layout manually in addition to using the scan.

What to check yourself

Open your store at phone width, add a product and inspect the cart. Confirm the checkout action is visible after normal interaction, not covered by banners, consent overlays or sticky sections. Try reaching it without using a desktop-sized screen.

If the scan reports a failure, reproduce the tested stage. If the scan reaches checkout but you still have a placement concern, adjust the theme layout and test usability manually. Don't call an accessibility or conversion problem resolved solely because the browser could click the button.
