Shopify store audit: test the public shopping journey
A Shopify store can have published products and a working homepage while an important product option or cart action still blocks shoppers. SnafuFinder tests the public storefront and records what actually happened.
Start with an available product
A Shopify product can have several variants for size, colour or another choice. The page can display a product title and price even when the particular option shown is unavailable. A store audit has to inspect the product-selection step instead of assuming every product page is ready for an order.
SnafuFinder uses a rendered browser journey to find a product, try an available option, trigger add to cart and verify the cart result. It reports the stage outcome. If a selector cannot be used or the cart cannot be confirmed, the report does not mark a purchase path as successfully tested.
Why Shopify cart checks matter
Theme edits, product option apps and cart drawers can change how add-to-cart actions behave. A click may fire without a line item appearing in the cart. A button can be present but disabled until a variant has been chosen. A product may also be unavailable despite looking visible in a collection.
The audit checks the shopper-facing behaviour. It does not access the Shopify admin, change inventory or make a live purchase. It checks whether the journey reaches checkout entry without entering payment details.
Review your theme on mobile and desktop
Mobile layouts frequently place variant choices, quantity controls, sticky add-to-cart bars and checkout entry in a different order from desktop. An interaction that works with a mouse does not prove it works with a narrow viewport.
SnafuFinder loads your storefront at desktop and mobile screen sizes, runs the product, cart and checkout journey, and checks that the cart’s checkout button is visible and tappable on a phone-sized screen. The report separates those stages. It cannot guarantee every device size, every app interaction or every possible variant was exercised. Review a failed stage in the actual theme before applying a change.
Check storefront links and legal pages
Main navigation, collections, featured-product links and footer policies direct shoppers through the store. Changing a handle or removing a page can leave a link behind. Links that lead to an error page are distinct from buttons that are present but cannot complete a JavaScript action.
The link scan checks a bounded set of internal links for response errors and flags obvious placeholder destinations. The policy checks look for published privacy, terms, shipping and refund or returns pages, plus a direct support contact path. These are presence and basic content checks, not a legal review of policy wording.
Check the domain and email records
A Shopify shop may first use a myshopify.com address and later serve customers from a custom domain. Those are different DNS setups. The platform-owned domain does not establish that the merchant's separate support or receipt-sending domain has correct mail authentication.
SnafuFinder checks public HTTPS and DNS signals, and looks up MX, SPF and DMARC records for the submitted hostname and bounded parent-domain candidates. Its results distinguish a shared platform domain from a merchant-controlled email domain where possible. It does not test delivery of every order notification.
How to use the report
Run the audit against the published customer-facing URL, not a Shopify admin link. Read blockers before warnings. If add to cart failed, reproduce the exact product and option with an ordinary visitor session. If a policy was missing, check navigation and the actual published page.
The report can point to a verified failure and provide evidence. A browser journey interrupted by bot protection or a timeout is not the same as a broken cart. Check the recorded reason and rerun after correcting site or test-environment conditions. Preview the report format before paying.
Check your store
SnafuFinder runs public store checks and reports the findings, including checks it could not verify. Start with a free preview: one per day, no signup. The full audit is CAD $29, one-time, no subscription.
